Proposed Fire Protection and Prevention By-law Amendment

Hartland Town Council are considering amendments to the town's By-law D-07 Fire Protection and Prevention By-law. They reviewed at the August 26, 2025 Council Meeting and will revisit at an upcoming Council meeting.

 

Summary of proposed amendments:

The amendment clarifies that no municipal fire-related activity may proceed unless a written exemption is granted in advance by either the Office of the Fire Marshal or the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development. It also confirms that the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for submitting exemption requests on behalf of the municipality, ensuring all required documentation and safety plans are provided.

This addition strengthens legal compliance, promotes public safety, and ensures consistent enforcement and communication with residents. It also supports transparency and accountability in municipal operations during periods of elevated fire risk and aligns with a recent correspondence from the Province to align with their directives in support of public safety.
