Public Art at Day & Ross Community Centre
The Day & Ross Community Centre features a beautiful art installation by Wolastoqey multidisciplinary storyteller Samaqani Cocahq (Natalie Sappier). Her piece, Psuhuni Wolastoq: Heart of the beautiful bountiful river, welcomes everyone walking the track with vibrant colours and a powerful visual story rooted in Wolastoqey culture.
Painted in acrylic on pine boards, the artwork blends traditional Wabanaki motifs with contemporary storytelling. Samaqani Cocahq draws deeply from her ancestral teachings, her connection to the land, and her lived experiences. Each brushstroke reflects identity, history and the enduring presence of Indigenous culture in our region.
Visitors are invited to slow down, take in the details and experience a creative expression that bridges generations. This installation enriches the centre with a meaningful connection to Indigenous storytelling while encouraging conversation, appreciation and community learning.
