Big Bridge Fest & Covered Bridge Market

Each year on New Brunswick Day weekend, the Hartland Covered Bridge—the world’s longest covered bridge at 1,282 feet—becomes the centerpiece of a town-wide celebration. We not only celebrate when New Brunswick joined Canada in 1867, we also shine a spotlight on our big beautiful Hartland Covered Bridge.

This iconic structure, originally built in 1901 and lovingly maintained by the the province and our community, takes on a new life as a vibrant event space. For a few magical days during the first weekend in August, the bridge is closed to traffic, allowing visitors to stroll inside, take in its historic wooden architecture, and enjoy a packed schedule of live entertainment, from concerts to comedy shows, and even special evening dinners hosted within the bridge itself.

On Monday, the Covered Bridge Market brings the entire span alive with stalls from local artisans, food vendors, and craft-makers, offering everything from handmade goods to fresh local produce. The bridge truly becomes a gathering place where community members and visitors meet, shop, and celebrate together.

Beyond the bridge, the town of Hartland hosts a lively parade, a sparkling antique car show, and a fireworks display over the Saint John River that caps off the weekend. Big Bridge Fest draws thousands of visitors each year, highlighting the spirit, creativity, and energy of our community. Whether it’s your first visit or part of a cherished tradition, this is a weekend that celebrates Hartland’s heritage, local talent, and the iconic bridge that brings us all together.
